Sugar Converts Unite!

"We’re getting the message, but we’re not sure how to share it.
Here’s an example of what we are hearing from estheticians and customers calling in.
“My esthetician waxes, I wish she would learn to sugar”
“Why have I never heard about sugaring before?”
“I was certified in sugaring, but I never practiced and I gave up”
“I can’t find anyone who sugars in my area”
“I have a client moving to _____and there is no one who sugars there, what is she going to do?”
Repeatedly here at Tamara’s Sugar™ we hear from not only our fellow professional sugarists who rely on our products, but also their clients who have converted from wax-based hair removal to sugaring, that they wished they’d been exposed to it sooner.
However, what we also know is that too many professionals give up sugaring, because unlike waxing, it takes a special patience and perseverance to become skilled at this centuries old hair-removal technique. It takes practice, lots and lots of practice. But, we’ve not heard of a client that was dissatisfied…
Okay, maybe those who went to someone who tried to do it professionally before they were ready. We all make mistakes. But, that’s why we urge everyone to keep practicing, to take refresher classes, advanced classes, even one on one coaching to be determined to master body sugaring.
We know that practicing one or two times, or even immediately after taking a hands-on class once does not a pro make, but by the time you have 6 months to a year under your belt, if you’re tenacious and don’t give up – you’ll be part of the sugaring world – and spreading the message that there is something better than wax out there.
So, dear fellow sugarists and those who are our sweet customers, how do we spread the word?
Our idea is to tell at least one person a day about the benefits of sugaring – both as someone who gets sugared or someone who provides sugaring. Use your person-to-person network, use social media, bring it up at a cocktail party. We love it. We know you love it. Let those who don’t know begin to love it.
Who did you tell about sugaring today?

Now Available! Sugaring Paste "Made With" Organic Fair Trade Sugar

PerfectlySmooth Paste™ in 3 Consistencies Ultra (Soft) Smooth (Medium) & Strong (Firm)

Made With Certified Organic Fair Trade Sugar

Now Available! PerfectlySmooth Sugaring Line in two consistencies. Smooth and Strong.
35oz Tubs $29  $320/Case of 12

Our PerfectlySmooth Paste™ has the ability to absorb moisture and hold up in warmer conditions without becoming too soft. The reason for this is organic sugar is unrefined and a much larger grain/molecule. The earthiness and texture of the sugar creates a resilient paste. Acacia gum that you often see in softer pastes like our Signature "Soft" and "Medium Soft" is not needed in our PerfectlySmooth Paste™ .

Made In USA Photo Contest

Images. Photos. Pictures. Portraits.

These visual gems help us relate to our world in such an intimate way. At Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring™, we love seeing the photographs that people post on social media. We delight in the ease with which we all can share via Instagram, too.

We also adore anything and everything Made In  USA. We’re very proud of the fact that we can say that our Body Sugar is Made In USA. In fact, most of our product line is Made In USA, manufactured on site in the Cascade Foothills of Washington State. Why is that important to us? Because just like shopping local is good for your local economy and stimulates its community, Made In USA stimulates a healthy national economy and strengthens our communities at large. It also fosters better safety regulations and more focus on environmental stewardship than many other places in the world. Last, but not least it provides more jobs.

Lastly, we love to share our love of professional body sugaring and all the positive things that comes from feeling beautiful in a healthy way.

Given all these things, we decided to run a special Made In USA photo contest for the next couple of weeks leading up and ending on Labor Day – our nation’s holiday to honor the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the United States of America.

We want you to post any or all of your favorite Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring™ products in your most “American” scene. Give us your version of Americana alongside America’s Sweetest Choice in Body Sugar. When you’ve got the photo you want to enter, post it on your favorite social platform, tag “tamarassugar” and then include the hashtag:  #TPBSMadeInUSA

After Labor Day we’ll decide our three favorite entries. The winning entries – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, will receive ္free Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring™ products. First prize will win a full case of sugar; second place will receive a half-case of sugar, and third place will receive two products of their choice from our line. All Free! Just for posting a photo of Tamara’s Sugar™ products in your favorite Americana, Made In USA, red, white, and blue scene!

So get snapping! Post or any or all social media platforms . Tag “tamarassugar.” Use the hashtag #TPBSMadeInUSA We’re hoping to see lots and lots of photos on our feed from all over the states!

Capital area Sugarist, growing clientelle, surprise hidden by apron

Meet Rashelle

Even at six months pregnant, Rashelle Barney is constantly working to handle the overflow of sugaring clients at her spa Blush Olympia in Olympia, Wash. She has seen substantial growth of her clientele since starting to sugar.

Rashelle Barney Licensed Esthetician Instructor
Co-Owner of Blush Olympia, Olympia, WA

Owners of Blush Olympia  Stacy Alexander (Left), Andrea House (Center), Rashelle Barney (Right)

Even at six months pregnant, Rashelle Barney is constantly working to handle the overflow of sugaring clients at her spa Blush Olympia in Olympia, Wash. She has seen substantial growth of her clientele since starting to sugar.

“It’s hard turning clients away, it makes me feel horrible,” she said. Therefore she’s training more people to be sugaring experts like herself.

Barney first heard about sugaring hair removal in 2008 – three years after becoming an esthetician.

“I was shocked that simply sugar, lemon, and water could remove hair without the harsh side effects of waxing!” she said.

Becoming a skilled professional in it was a different story, however, she’ll tell you.

“My first memory of sugaring was: ‘oh my gosh, this is hard! I’m never going to be able to do this’. I had been waxing for years before switching to sugaring, so it was quite a difficult transition. I made myself stick with it, despite the challenges. Eventually it just clicked.”

It clicked enough that in due course she connected with Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring™ a became a sugaring educator.

Barney said it surprised her that her students grasped the technique so quickly.

“Wow, she’s doing so much better than I did my first time,” is something Barney thinks while teaching students, she said.

“It’s exciting to see them succeed and be able to share how wonderful sugaring is.”

She plans on continuing sharing sugaring with clients and other professionals – even after the baby comes.

“One thing I wish more people knew about sugaring is how great the results can be,” she said. “I think people just assume that hair removal means ingrown hairs, irritation, etc. I wish more people knew that there is a better alternative to waxing and shaving!”

Barney specializes in her Brazilian technique, which she claims was the hardest thing for her to learn, but she said she stuck to it and became a pro at it.

“I chose Tamara’s products,” she said, “not just because of the convenience of her being local, but I realized her products are so much more user friendly. The sugar paste in general is easier to work with, it doesn’t leave the skin sticky, and I never get stuck.” She added that the support Tamara offers – always being available for questions – just makes working with her so very pleasant.

A pleasant work environment is a great place for a mommy-to-be. It’s too soon to tell if the Barney’s expected child will follow in mommy’s footsteps, but, baby Barney will definitely know that mom loves her second job of sugaring clients.

Not Just a green thumb, but green hands

At Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring™, we’re constantly trying to make our products better. We’re aiming for environmental accountability (organic, sustainable), made in America, and in general as responsible and conscientious as possible. There will be some new products very soon (so always come back and check this space), so stay tuned.

Today, however, we want to talk to you about a product that we use in our processing and training and are now available for you to purchase.  It’s GreenDex™ Biodegradeable Gloves. They are made in the USA and they are the world’s first biodegradable nitrile glove.
Just so you know, no one has offered us any kind of sponsorship or monetary gain for talking or recommending this. We’re just convinced that this is a step in the right direction for our industry. It has always been our concern that we promote an eco friendly, natural, water-soluble service as professional sugarists, but yet we use Nitrile gloves that get thrown in the garbage and stay around in our landfills a very, very long time.  We’ve been searching for a glove that gave us the protection and usability that we need in my sugaring business. GreenDex does that. For the month of August you can order GreenDex gloves off of our site at the same price as less-earth-friendly nitrile gloves.

We’re so in love with this glove and the fact that it is environmentally responsible and made in the USA, that if post a photo via Instagram that you are using them, we’ll gift you something good for you and our planet. Be sure to comment here with the link to your instagram photo, or even better, tag me via Instagram @TamarasSugar.  Let’s all get a little green-handed! Can’t wait to see your green-hands in action!

When Your Name is On The Line

When you go to a party or family gathering and there are new people, you often talk about what you do for a living. “So, what do you do?” you’ll be asked, or even asked yourself. I have a bit of fun with that, because I love what I do and I love telling people about this great beauty secret, as well as my own product line.

Recently, a non professional found out what I did and was intrigued. They asked if they could purchase some of my professional standard sugar. I had to decline. Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring only sells to licensed professionals who have been trained and certified in sugaring. I think this is important to protect the integrity of the service and out of respect for the licensed professional who have paid for their certification and worked hard to become experts in the sugaring service.

When you have your name on a product, you want to make sure that it is used properly and safely. Many beauty schools, in fact, sadly most, do not teach sugaring. They teach waxing. Therefore, Professional Body Sugaring is an advanced method of hair removal and it comes with a learning curve. It can take up to six months to master the technique of sugaring. Taking a hands-on class is the best way to ensure success and use the proper technique.

There are several companies out there that will sell to licensed professionals without training and that concerns me; there are some companies that will only sell to those who have proprietary certifications.  Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring will accept other company certifications, but we also offer our own certifications. My goal is that the professional using our product is certified and providing expert service to the public.

If you happen to be a client of someone using the Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring products, you know that they have been well-trained, certified, and are of the highest standards in this advanced hair-removal technique. I put my name on that.

Thrown into sugar fire, Savannah educator finds passion.

Jessica Mock, Esthetician, Body Sugaring Educator

Dear Sweet Readers: This is the next installment of a series of profile pieces of the wonderful people I’m so honored to work with every day. When you read these pieces, you’ll understand why I love my job and business so much! Enjoy! ..........Tamara

Jessica Mock got a baptism by fire – or rather sugar – when she was a freshly licensed esthetician fresh out of school. Her first experience being a body-sugar professional made her learn on her feet.

“I was briefly trained by the owner of the first salon I worked at, and when she came down with pneumonia and was out for a month, I was expected to take over her appointments,” Mock said.

She said she was extremely challenged by sugaring when she first started.

“My skin reacted so much better to it than it ever did to waxing,” she said. “So, I was determined to master it.”

Master it, she has. She’s now a sugaring educator in Savannah, Georgia, where many of her clients are in the military community.

“I am so inspired by and proud of their commitment to our country,” Mock said.

Her own commitment to teaching sugaring is also inspirational, despite a rocky start in her sugaring career. Giving her sugar education classes is the one of the best things she looks forward to each month, she said.  Continue Reading Here

Beauty is more than skin deep

Being a sole proprietor of a beauty business can leave you a little frazzled sometimes and looking less than a beauty professional.

That’s when it’s time to step back and take a moment or fifteen to manage your stress. For me it can just be a walk to the coffee shop and visiting with the great folks of my community, a meal with my son, or learning something new.

I know what you’re thinking, “Learn something new? If I’m stressed why would I take on something new?”   Continue Reading More HERE

We all get by with a little help from our friends.

Last week before I dashed off to Reno for some much needed family time, as well as, bringing into the Sugaring World some new educators and devoted sugar converts, I sent off a survey to the sweet dears in my life that participate in professional body sugaring.

As a sole proprietor and operator of my business, I have to work smarter, not harder. So I need to pick a few brains to make sure I’m on track. Particularly, I’m interested in how I should be using some of the tools that we all have in many of our hand-held devices – social media. Additionally, I need to know what you love most about Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring.   Continue Reading More HERE
